What a fun, exciting book!  In this quick read we are introduced to Finley Jayne and given her backstory.  The story opens with Finley getting fired for protecting a child. Then Lady Morten hires her almost immediately to be her daughter's companion.  Her daughter is Phoebe and she's engaged to the much older Lord Vincent.

The Morten's are extremely good to Finley and she hopes to be able to stay with them awhile.  She quickly attends a party at Lord Vincent's where she views a portrait of Lord V with his now-deceased wife.  She looks exactly like Phoebe.  Turns out that she was Lady Morten's cousin.  Lady Morten is a little freaked out too and since she knows about Finley's capabilities, she's hoping to soon feel better about the engagement.

This is a fabulous prequel and even if you've already read GIRL IN THE STEEL CORSET, you should pick this one up.  It's a great intro!  I'm really glad that I read it first.

  1. We enjoyed this little novella too! Finley's Jekyll-and-Hyde complex was really interesting and well written. And we actually just blogged about this in the context of ebook novellas -- as prequels, sequels, and in-betweeners.
