Diary: A Novel by Chuck Palahniuk

Publisher:  Anchor Books (division of Random House)

Pages:  261

Misty Kleinman was a promising young artist.  Then she met Peter Wilmot, dated him, got pregnant, got married and is now stuck on Waytansea Island being poor again.

See, ever since Misty was a little girl, she's been drawing the community of Waytansea Island.  But she thought it was a make-believe place.  Turns out she's the one they've been waiting for.  She can save them.  But she's going to have to suffer to do it.

Now Misty is working at the local hotel - all the 'good' families have moved into the attic of the hotel and are renting out their beautiful old homes to tourists.  Her husband, Peter, is laying in the hospital in a coma and her mother-in-law is brainwashing her daughter into knowing china patterns.

This novel is Misty's diary (as well as those that came before her).  See, Misty is not the first promising young artist to come to the island and be stuck there.  This is a troubling story, a disturbing, horrifying, enchanting story.  I couldn't put it down.

There is quite a bit of swearing, so I would say to keep this one to the older crowd of YA.

  1. Sounds very ... odd. Unique? Intriguing. But we would expect no less from Chuck Palahniuk. He did write Fight Club, after all. :P

    Thanks for the review!
