The Dead Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan

Publisher:  Delacorte Press
Publish Date:  March 9, 2010
ISBN: 978-0-375-89542-5
Pages:  404

The Dead Tossed Waves starts right off with Gabry and her friends sneaking out of town to play on the roller coaster.  They have to be careful of the Mudo (the Unconsecrated, the Zombies), but the teens are hungry for some fun and the town of Vista doesn't offer much.  The hear all the stories, but the only Mudo they really see are the ones washed up on the shore - slow and sluggish, easy to kill.

Disaster strikes and half the young population of Vista is now dead and the other half is in jail.  Gabry's mother tries to help, but she's having her own issues.  Gabry starts to wonder if there's more to her mother's tales of life 'out there'.

Ms. Ryan throws in plenty of surprises and blends the characters of the first book with new characters in surprising ways.  Ofcourse there's a cliffhanger - Book 3: The Dark and Hollow Places, just came out!  There's not much I can say without spoiling the story for you, but trust me, it's just as good.  The beautiful writing keeps me reading almost as much as the characters and story.

  1. Oh yay! Sarah just finished it and loved it, and I'm going to start soon. I remember really enjoying how thought-provoking FOREST was, so I'm looking forward to this one too.
